Creating a daily practice of gratitude

Gratitude is vital to create a positive mindset. You cannot manifest an abundant life if you always feel scarcity.

Gratitude is a state of mind. You create it with small details in daily actions.

There are multiple things you can do if you want to create a daily practice of gratitude. Eating, waking up, showering, talking, etc. They are all opportunities to be grateful.

Show gratitude when you wake up

Waking up is the most meaningful moment of the day. What you do during these minutes will set the tone for the rest of the day.

So, stop checking your emails first thing in the morning. Instead, try to make the most of the magical energy of the morning to appreciate life.

So, include a moment of gratitude in your morning routine, even before brushing your teeth. Open your eyes and think of reasons for being grateful.

Try to name three things you are grateful for.

You can also contemplate the sunrise for a few minutes.

Start a gratitude journal

A gratitude journal is another wonderful way to be more grateful. You can buy a gratitude journal online, or you can get a simple notebook. Do what works best for you.

Each day, name five to ten things you are grateful for. Or you can try to write down everything that made you feel grateful that day.

Here is some writing prompts:

  • People I’m happy I have in my life
  • The most beautiful things I saw this week
  • Small things that make me feel alive
  • 7 Reasons I’m abundant
  • Three things that made me laugh today

Repeat positive affirmations

When you repeat something constantly, and with intention, it will become a part of your mindset. And somehow, it will become your reality.

Your thoughts affect your emotions, and your emotions cause actions. Those actions define your life, but it all starts with your thoughts.

So, if you think you lack money, love, happiness, or other things, you cannot realize what you have.

Positive affirmations help you to change those old negative thinking patterns.

For example, say out loud:  “I’m abundant, my life is full of prosperity, and I see happiness everywhere I go”.

If you repeat it to yourself over and over, it will become your reality. You will start finding reasons to be grateful for it.

Bless your food

Food charges from the energy you project on it. For many people, eating is a sacred moment of the day.

Many people pray before eating. But regardless of religious beliefs, having a meal is a perfect opportunity to practice gratitude.

You can pray if you feel comfortable doing that, but you can simply contemplate your food with gratitude. Before eating, become conscious of everything that nature had to do before you had that food on your plate.

You can do a short meditation before eating. For a few seconds, close your eyes and imagine the process that brought that meal to you. All the natural processes and all the people who worked hard to make it possible.

Feel lucky: the universe brought you food today.

Visit Nature

If you want to feel grateful for being alive, go to nature.

Visit a beach, forest, mountain, river, lake, or your nearest park. Walk barefoot, hug a tree, and breathe fresh air.

It’s hard to feel gratitude when you are stressed and overwhelmed

Visiting nature puts you in a state of flow that allows you to feel gratitude. It transports you to the present moment.

If you can’t do this daily, try to do it at least once a week. If possible, incorporate a garden in your living space to be in contact with nature all time.

Say “thank you”

This is so essential, but we often forget it. “Thank you” is such a magical phrase.

You don’t believe it? Watch what happens when you say it. You can completely change other people’s faces.

So, try to recognize every time someone makes something nice for you (sometimes we do not realize it). Sincerely, say “thank you”.

It is so powerful that if you say it with intention, it can also change your state of mind. These words can elevate your vibration.

It’s also important to be specific. Instead of simply saying thank you, try to recognize the efforts other people are doing.

State exactly what they do to make you feel gratitude.

“I love how you cooked that meal. It was simply so delicious”.

“You work so hard, and it helps us all in the company”.

“I love how you take care of me, and I’m so happy I have you in my life”.

Surround yourself with plants and animals

Plants and animals are naturally grateful. Think of how dogs are so happy to see you, so happy to eat, so happy to find a new dog friend.

Plants also don’t need much to thrive. Water, sunlight, and good soil will keep them happy.

So, if you can take care of them, get a few plant friends or animal buddies. They will teach you many lessons about being happy to be alive.

Avoid feelings of scarcity like the plague

Start to pay attention to your thoughts and feelings. We often think in terms of what we lack.

For example, we think we don’t have money because we don’t have enough to buy X. We feel we are not loved because we don’t have a partner. We are unhappy because we are not doing what other people on social media are doing.

That is what people refer to as “seeing the glass half-empty”.

Instead of doing that, focus on what you already have. You may not be a millionaire, but you have a roof over your head, food on your plate, and a place to rest.

If you focus on what you have, you will start to think and feel in terms of abundance, and you will attract more of it into your life.

Be around positive people

Gratitude is contagious, but so is negativity. If you hang out with people who are always complaining, you will end up doing the same. Instead, try to surround yourself with positive people who help you to see the beauty in life.

Meditate

Meditation teaches you to be in the present moment. We are often unhappy because we always think about the past or the future. But we don’t know how to appreciate the now.

Meditation and mindfulness practices will train you to be right here, right now.

There are millions of beautiful things happening right now, but we need to be here to see them.

Show gratitude before going to bed

Like waking up, going to bed is a key moment in your day. It can be a ritual if you do it with intention.

This is another moment where you can think of the things that made you happy today.

Something that made you smile, someone who was kind to you, a beautiful sunset, when someone played your favorite song, that delicious coffee, and anything you can think of.

You can also use this moment to thank the universe for being alive and for all the beautiful things you found in your journey.

To wrap up

That’s it! Now you know how to create a daily practice of gratitude.

As you can see, gratitude is the result of small details. It’s also the result of becoming conscious of what surrounds you.

As you become aware of those small things, you will experience more gratitude.
