Wanted to share my recent murals with the community that I talked about in church this past Sunday. I painted these in St. Augustine, FL - one featuring the local swampy wildlife and also a reference to a vintage gator postcard. Much gratitude extended to both Mother Aya and the Two Birds community for the healing that helped me find my way back into the mural painting saddle after a very long 7 year hiatus. 🐊🐟🌿🙏💗
For some history, 10 years ago, my very first mural projects were at the Bass Pro Pyramid in Memphis, TN. I lived there for 9 months painting murals. The urinal octopus was my very favorite.
@Libby England (She/Her) Uresii I was looking for the octopus pic some time ago to brag but couldn't find it!!!!
And for context for the healing... here is me in the midst of a total nervous breakdown painting dioramas at the Wonders of Wildlife museum in Missouri in 2017 🫠 This was the last of my last major mural assignments before my long hiatus (other than a few scattered independent projects over the years, which I managed to do trudge my way through mostly begrudgingly). The stress, long hours, and high demands of perfection for the paintings to be "museum quality and scientifically accurate" (along with harassment from a coworker that I'd rather not elaborate too much on) broke me down completely to the point that I thought I never ever wanted to paint a mural again. By the end I would find myself staring at the wall with a brush in my hand completely unable to make a single mark on the wall. I became highly sensitive to light and sounds and even started to hear voices. Luckily, those acute symptoms all cleared up almost immediately as soon as I quit. But the creative "block" remained and persisted for years - until I found my way to Mama Aya and Two Birds! :) Painting in Florida was both easy and fun again like it used to be - it was actually even more fun than it ever was - what a gift you all have given me! 💞
