Curious to learn more about Guayusa during dieta. It is recommended as a coffee and tea alternative, but I’m wondering why it is allowed as it contains caffeine. Are there other unique properties that make it safer to consume than other forms of caffeine?
Caffeine content comparison (per cup):
Coffee 96mg
Black tea 47mg
Green tea 28mg
Guayusa 41mg
Guayusa is recommended as an alternative to coffee, especially for those preparing for the ceremony. We have it listed on our dieta page as "Guayusa (Most Recommended stimulant, good for helping wean off coffee)." It’s a great option to help ease off caffeine. Going cold turkey can be tough for people with a heavy caffeine habit, so lighter options like Guayusa are helpful. It’s a good way to replace your morning espresso or energy drinks with something more manageable, allowing you to start reducing caffeine without experiencing full withdrawal.
Ideally, you’d start this process at least two weeks before the ceremony. This gives your body time to adjust, getting past the initial headache stage, so you can go a few days without caffeine and not feel grumpy or sick. There won’t be any caffeine available during the ceremony weekend so weaning sown and being prepared is the way to go. Some people choose not to reduce their intake beforehand.... That’s an option too :-) it won’t harm you, but you might spend a lot of time in the bathroom and get headaches during the weekend.
Another great alternative is cacao. It can have as little as 12.4mg of caffeine depending on your serving size, making it another good option to help wean off caffeine gradually.
By gradually reducing your caffeine intake, you’re preparing your body to have a more comfortable and focused experience during the ceremony. It’s all about making the transition smoother and ensuring you’re in the best state for the journey ahead.

Ah, okay that makes a lot of sense! So we still should have no caffeine at all, even cutting out the guayusa, during the last few days to prevent any problems. Thanks so much for clarifying the details and reasoning process for me 🌿💞✨
I can share my experience with you… I started using Guayusa Tea 2 weeks before my first ceremony. It was the replacement for my morning coffee. After my ceremony I stoped being addicted to coffee, but I kept having Guayusa tea as my coffee replacement, so for my second ceremony it was like not having to make any changes and the whole dieta process was way smoother than the first time.
To be honest, I didn’t stop having my Guayusa tea in the mornings , not even the morning of my ceremony, but if you can stop having it a few days before yours, it will be great for you 🙃
Oh wow, so good to know! I would like to kick my coffee habit for good, too. I've already been cold turkey for two weeks off caffeine (wanted to deal with it sooner rather than later - I still have 3 weeks to go) but struggling without it. 😅 That Guayusa has been catching my eye so I think I will give it a try! :)
Keep going, you got this!
@Libby (She/Her) is you did it for 2 weeks already, then don’t go back to caffeine. You’ve got this girl!!!!
thank you guys! 🙏
