Sunday Service meets every week at our church in Anna, from 3 to 6pm. It’s how we carry the work into daily life. In ceremony we sit with whatever comes up, including fear, grief, resistance or denial, and on Sundays we do the same.
We gather as a community of practice: people committed to facing themselves honestly instead of escaping into fantasy or distraction. This is not a place for performance, preaching or surface-level talk. It’s where we keep working on self-responsibility and honest connection.
We can only work on what we’re willing to face. Sunday Service is where we practice that honesty together. It works a lot like a support group: people share honestly and listen without fixing. It isn’t ceremony, but it is sacred work. Week by week we practice honesty, owning our part and staying present, so that when we return to ceremony, or to the challenges of daily life, we’re more ready to sit with ourselves fully.
How a Sunday runs
Arriving and cacao
The afternoon starts with easy time to arrive, settle in and hang out over a cup of cacao.
Authentic sharing
This is the heart of Sunday Service, and it usually takes up most of the afternoon. Each week we work with a prompt: something simple and focused that helps us look beneath the surface. The prompts change with the seasons and with what our community is working on. The prompt is a starting point, and anything you share openly and honestly is welcome.
Everyone is invited to share from their own life, and nobody has to. The guidelines: speak only for yourself, from “I” (“I feel…”, “I’m experiencing…”). No advice, no fixing, no responding to others, and no rants. That way each person can say what’s true for them without interruption or pressure.
A share can be deep or simple, emotional or quiet. What matters is honesty. The prompt gives direction, and the practice is learning to name what’s true without bypassing, storytelling or spiritual theatrics. It’s the same way we meet ourselves in ceremony: openly, and without turning away.
Music
We leave time at the end for music: soundscapes and songs we play in ceremony.
Community potluck (last Sunday of the month)
On the last Sunday of each month, we stay after service for a potluck from 6 to 8pm. Bring a dish, or just come.
