Our Sapo/Kambo Circle at Two Birds Church

Sapo/Kambo is the dried secretion of the Phyllomedusa bicolor frog, applied to small burns on the skin.

At Two Birds Church, we offer a grounded, safety-forward Sapo/Kambo circle that honors tradition while applying modern best practices. You’ll be guided the whole way with music, mindful pacing, optional hapé (a tobacco snuff) for grounding, and a brief sharing circle to help integrate insights.

Choose Your Session Type

1 Point — Gentle reset
A light session with one application point. Best suited for first-time participants or those looking for a grounding experience without being pushed too far.

2 Points — Moderate intensity
A fuller and more involved session. This is the most common choice for returning participants who feel comfortable with Kambo and want to explore a deeper experience while keeping things balanced.

3 Points — Strong / Ordeal level
The maximum we allow for safety. This is a demanding experience, both physically and emotionally. It can be challenging and exhausting, and is only appropriate for experienced participants who are ready to step into an ordeal-level intensity.

How We Work (Safety-First)

  • Moderate water intake: Up to ~8oz before we begin. Purging can show up in other ways too: sweating, yawning, tears, shaking or vomiting.

  • Upper arm or ankle only: Application points are limited to these two sites for consistency and safety.

  • Sapo-style sizing: We use slightly larger burn tamishi sticks (Sapo style) so we use 2–3 larger application points instead of many small ones.

  • Water activation: We rehydrate the dried peptides with water for clean, consistent application.

  • Ceremonial container: Guidance, music, optional Hapé afterward, and a brief sharing circle to help you land and learn from the experience.

Preparation (Required & Free)

Before attending, all participants must complete the following:

  • Submit a medical screening form

  • Sign a liability waiver

  • Complete our free virtual preparation course

These steps are required before your final donation is accepted and your reservation is confirmed. The course covers what to expect, how to prepare physically and emotionally, and our day-of flow.

Additional information

Session Type

1 Point — Gentle reset, 2 Points — Moderate intensity, 3 Points — Strong / Ordeal level

Is Sapo the same as Bufo?

No. Sapo, also called Kambo, is the dried secretion of the giant monkey frog (Phyllomedusa bicolor), a practice that comes from the Matsés people of Peru. Sapo means toad in Spanish, but it has nothing to do with Bufo, which comes from the Sonoran Desert toad (Bufo alvarius) and contains 5-MeO-DMT.

If you've used Bufo, wait 6 to 8 weeks before Kambo.

How long does a session take?

Circles run from 1:00 to 2:30 PM. The medicine itself stays on for about 15 minutes, and the strongest effects fade soon after it comes off. Plan to rest for the rest of the day.

When are Kambo circles held?

On Sundays from 1:00 to 2:30 PM, before Sunday Service at 3 PM, and you're welcome to stay for the service afterward. Upcoming dates are on our calendar.

How do I sign up?

  1. Create an account on our community site.
  2. Submit the medical screening form, sign the liability waiver and complete the free Sapo/Kambo Preparation Course.
  3. Choose your session type on this page and donate to confirm your spot.

Your reservation is confirmed once your screening is approved and your donation goes through. Circles are kept small, so space is limited.

Which session type should I choose for my first time?

Start with 1 point. It's a gentle session, made for first-timers. Most returning participants choose 2 points, and 3 points is only for experienced participants ready for an ordeal-level session.

How should I prepare on the day?

  1. Set your intention before you come.
  2. Don't eat for 4 to 6 hours before your session, and skip coffee that morning.
  3. Drink up to about 8 oz of water before we begin, and bring two bottles of water.
  4. Wear a sleeveless shirt if you can. We apply Kambo on the upper arm or the ankle.
  5. Take off tight rings, watches and bracelets, because your body may swell for a short time.
  6. Keep the rest of your day free. You may want to rest afterward.

What does a session feel like?

It's intense and short: a racing heart, hot flushes, nausea and purging, with the strongest effects lasting about 15 minutes. Your body may swell for a little while. Purging isn't only vomiting: sweating, yawning, tears and shaking are all ways the body releases.

We guide you through it with music and careful pacing, and you can take hapé afterward to ground yourself. We close with a short sharing circle.

Where can I find more answers?

The free Sapo/Kambo Preparation Course, which you take when you sign up, answers more: whether Sapo is safe and legal, scars, driving afterward, medications, and where Sapo comes from.
